Born in Chennai, Mrs. Jayanthi moved to Chennai at the age of 12. She had always wanted to set up a petrol bunk in the city. Her pacifying personality and certain unfortunate events led her to the founding of Shine Trust.
“In 1998, I was 21 and grief-stricken by my husband’s passing. I found myself juggling work and raising my child from being a single parent. I opened a Computer Centre worked till 2008 to support myself and the family. As a widow, I struggled to get by in society, my heart moved to many such women living through their hardships. I started giving free computer lessons at my centre to underprivileged children and widowed women. Around 2008, I met Mr. Irudhayaraj at a convention where I found we shared a common vision.
We registered Shine Foundation in 2009 and started by providing education to underprivileged children and those with a single parent, and skill development courses for women to encourage women entrepreneurs. In the following years, we engaged in various social-centric events, campaigns and activities that helped thousands of lives and brought awareness to many social issues to the general public.
In 2019, we began working with the families of army veterans and fallen soldiers by providing financial support, educational aid, and assist in their employment.”
Mrs. Jayanthi worked towards finding her purpose in life. Now, she strives to have her name synonymous to Shine Foundation.
Born and raised in Chennai, Mr M. Irudhayaraj aspired to become an actor as a young man in the city. He worked as Assistant Director in a few Tamil Movies, but his soft nature and a helping character channeled him to move on and help the underprivileged children and women around him.
“When Tsunami struck the coastal land of Chennai in 2004, I woke up to the face of devastation and reality. I joined hands with many who took a step towards helping the affected at the time of devastation, and I never looked back since.
I was only 22 years old at that time, my financial upbringing deprived me of pursuing higher studies. I began working as a driver in 2006 to save my income and help underprivileged children and women in the city. I met Mrs. Jayanthi in 2008 at an event, and we started working together with a vision – to build a roof for a harmonious community of individuals living together as a family.

Mr. Irudhayaraj looks up to Kamarajar and Mother Teresa for their contribution to the society. He relates to Kamarajar for he too was deprived of schooling but still rose to educate many children during his time. He wishes to follow that road and pave the way for many youths to follow.
